Chocolate Economics 2022

Chocolate Economics Curriculum

This “tasty” curriculum uses a chocolate theme to teach elementary school lessons that directly correlate with the national content standards in economics. The creative activities are stimulating for young students and allow for active learning. Activities have clear, thorough instructions, and all required game pieces, flash cards, worksheets, and activity cards are included for duplication.  Children’s literature is incorporated.

The EKU Center for Economic Education in cooperation with Ruth Hunt Candy Co. is offering a workshop on “Chocolate Economics” on Thursday, June 23 at two alternative times:

Session 1:   9:00 AM – 12:00 PM or

Session 2:  12:30 PM – 3:30 PM

at the Ruth Hunt Candy Company in Mt. Sterling, KY.  The workshop will be presented by Cindy West, Elementary Education Consultant for the EKU Center.  A tour of the chocolate factory will be included for each in-person session. Note that plans may change such that the workshop is offered virtually, depending on the status of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Masks must be worn as long as the mandate is in effect and required by Ruth Hunt Candy Co.

There is NO FEE to attend this workshop, but participation is very limited.  If you register and are approved but not able to attend, please email as soon as possible so that someone else may attend in your slot. Go to to register and be sure to select either Session 1 (morning) or Session 2 (afternoon).

Your name will be added to the registration list in the order of appearance in the online registration list. You must have a confirmation email from the EKU Center for Economic Education in order to attend.

Everyone who attends for an entire session will receive PD certificates and copies of the latest version of the curriculum.  A boxed lunch will also be provided (if not restricted due to pandemic protocols).
